A summary of fixed broadband coverage in the UK – OfCom Connected Nations Report October 2018

On the 2nd of October OfCom published the latest in a series of reports which considers mobile and internet coverage across the UK.

You can read the report in full here.

As a service provider who specialises in connecting rural and remote communities we are passionate about reaching 100% superfast coverage, so that everyone in the UK can benefit from being digitally included. It should not matter where you live, being able to get online for work, school or social activities is becoming more and more critical, and all of our lives are enriched as a result.

We take a look at the key findings for fixed broadband, and overall progress, below:

What’s telling is that the coverage of 10Mbps+ broadband is not really increasing (just 100,000 premises in the last year), despite lots of focus and investment. OfCom have the job of delivering the Universal Service Obligation, so it’s reasonable to expect that this will change in the next two years.

The focus on full-fibre connections is useful in the long term, but there are still 860,000 UK premises which cannot receive 10Mbps+ services, and that’s where we can help. Get in touch with us to find out how.
